Group Therapy for Children
(Big Feelings Group)
The Big Feelings Group is an 8-week therapy group designed for children ages 8–12 who are learning to manage strong emotions such as frustration, anger, and impulsive behavior. Childhood can bring many emotional challenges, and some children benefit from structured guidance and support as they learn how to understand and express their feelings in healthy ways.

Helping Children Understand and Manage Big Emotions
At Compassion Mental Health Counseling, the Big Feelings Group provides a supportive and engaging environment where children can learn practical skills while interacting with peers who may be experiencing similar struggles. Group therapy helps children realize they are not alone and gives them the opportunity to practice new skills in a safe and encouraging setting.
Skills Children Learn in the Big Feelings Group
Throughout the program, children are introduced to tools that help them better understand and manage their emotions. The group focuses on developing practical strategies that can be used at home, at school, and in social situations.

Children in the group will learn how to:
-
Improve impulse control
-
Recognize and understand strong emotions
-
Manage frustration and anger in healthy ways
-
Use calming techniques and breathing exercises
-
Prevent conflicts from escalating
-
Communicate feelings more effectively

These skills help children feel more confident in handling challenging situations and build emotional awareness that supports long‑term growth.

The Benefits of Group Therapy for Children
Group therapy offers unique benefits that individual therapy alone may not provide. Children learn not only from the therapist, but also from observing and interacting with other group members.

Participating in a group allows children to practice social skills, gain new perspectives, and build confidence as they learn to navigate emotional situations with others. The group setting also encourages empathy and cooperation while reinforcing positive behaviors.

The Big Feelings Group is structured to create a supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and develop healthier ways to manage their emotions.

Supporting Emotional Growth
Learning how to manage emotions is an important part of a child’s development. With the right guidance and support, children can develop the tools they need to handle frustration, communicate their feelings, and respond to challenges more effectively.

If you are looking for group therapy for children, the Big Feelings Group at Compassion Mental Health Counseling provides a welcoming and structured space where children can develop important emotional and behavioral skills.
